I'm a Rebel!!

I think I have to take back my words!!When I wrote about Innocent Steps (see 2 posts below), I had lamented upon about the prevalence of vulgarity and "sic" comedy in Hindi movies. Guess Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra wanted me to eat my words...Rakesh who?????Well he is the director of the coolest, soul stirring (my friend came out with tear stained eyes) Hindi movies released in recent times... and yeah, after seing the title of my post, it's not difficult to guess the movie, which deals with a group of carefree friends--it's Rang de Basanti!!!! (Paint it Yellow was supposed to be its English title).

The movie could be said to run parallel on 2 plots, with comparisons being made between 2 situations…one when India was ruled by the British and the other when India is being run by corrupt politicians. As Rakeysh says, “It's a contemporary film, set in today's times.”
I don’t wanna make this a movie review cause there are lots of other blogs, online news etc. who have written better reviews. However, these are some of the inspirations/ideas which some of the people I know got after watching the movie:-

1)Learn to drive a bike...preferably on the rear wheel..more preferably with a girl behind.
2)Join the Air force...don't know why the Indian air force made such a hue and cry about the movie dissuading the youth from joining the airforce...Madhavan looks macho.
3)Drink lots of beer...
4)Join Delhi University??????
5)Have frizzled hair like Aamir...one damn good actor.
6)Think about our freedom fighters once in a while!!!
7)Got to go to Punjab...of course with friends!!!

8)Banging the TV is another way of changing the channel(incase somebody else has the remote).

My favorite scene:When the pyre is lighted by Aamir and the Luka Chuppi song starts with Lata Mangeshkar's melodious voice....really brings a lump to your throat!!!How does the lady do it????

About the cast:-
Aamir as DJ: holds the cast together!!!
Kunal as Aslam: serious,no nonsense acting..laajawab.
Siddharth as Karan: surprise package, wonderful acting.
Alice as Sue: have to agree with Aamir, kya Hindi bolti hain!!!
Sharman as Sukhi:joker of the pack!!Powerful acting!
Soha as Sonia: another wonderful, actor..a revelation.
Atul Kulkarni as Laxman: can always expect quality performance from him.
Madhavan as Aji:Towers in the scenes where he is present.
Waheeda Rahman is as charming as ever while Kiron Kher is great.Don't think Anupan Kher nor Om Puri got much of a role but still an overdose of exceptional acting may also be unwanted. And oh! Before I forget, A.R. Rahman as ever gives us one amazing song after another....My personal favourite:Roobaroo Roshini!!!

Don' t think so much hue and cry was needed over this movie...whoever may it be..from Maneka Gandhi to the Indian Govt.!! Think you guys should go and watch the movie...preferably with lots of friends!!!Lots of peppy Punjabi dialogues....so better listen carefully!!
Wanna sign-off with some lines from one of the songs called Khoonchala:

"kuchh kar guzarne ko khoon chala khoon chala

aankhon ke sheeshe mein utarne ko khoon chala

badan se tapak kar, zameen se lipatkar

galiyon se raston se ubharkar, umadkar

naye rang bhar ne ko khoon chala khoon chala."

P.S: For a proper review of the movie, check the blog by Shikha.
P.P.S:Think the climax could have been better.
